On the map below, you will see Cedar Creek which comes out of the mountains and onto the alluvial fan. Where contour lines are closely spaced, the land is very steep. The mountains are closely spaced lines and the alluvial fan is gentler sloped and lines are further spaced. You can also tell where the alluvial fan occurs due to the curved shape of the lines (like a letter “C”)

The map is on the top and the cross-section (also known as a “profile”) is on the bottom of the map. A cross-section (profile) is like taking a slice out of Earth so we can picture what it looks like from the side.

Complete the questionnaire and use the map to cross-section by
plotting
and connecting the elevation points (dots).
